Lindsay's workshop is based on The Write Structure method and its Nine Key Practices (see below). The workshop is designed to:

-establish a cohesive writing structure and common language for grades 2-10

-align writing instruction (ELA and content areas) to the Michigan Department of Education's (MDE) M-STEP Text Dependent Analysis Essay

-range find together with all teachers and administrators (examine and score sample papers and items released by MDE using the TDA Scoring Guidelines)

-give time for grade level teams to map out a year-long writing instruction plan that weaves the Nine Key Practices into every classroom

The Nine Key Practices of The Write Structure are:

  • Model WITH IT

  • confer with it

  • Move with It

  • Share It

  • Transfer It

  • Celebrate It

  • Score with It

  • Score It with Students

  • Repeat It

After teaching for almost 30 years, teaching writing is my favorite! I love finding things that appeal to writers (myself included), are user-friendly, build success, draw upon mentor texts and line up with my experience and philosophy. The organization and modeling of Identify It! Prove It! Bring it Back Around! is a tool that students will use in my fifth grade classroom and beyond, allowing them to write thorough, organized, detailed, supported pieces that flow. Thank you Lindsay Veitch for articulating this framework and sharing this tool!
